Tearing down the Wall

Well we had the energy, the resources, and the will power - so we decided to start to make the vision for our home a reality.  We invited people to come over ("hey want to come help with some stuff on Saturday?") for our day of destruction.

The vision was (and still is) to create an open concept living space.  In order to do this we needed to tear out the cabinets in the corner of the kitchen so we could move the refrigerator to a less space consuming location, thus opening up the kitchen floor plan a little more.

The before - the fridge was pushed up against the side wall, which really took up a ton of much needed kitchen floor space.  The cabinets that were in the corner had shelving on the inside that was not very practical.  We have a plan for new storage space, so we weren't too concerned with being rid of this corner piece.

Laura in action!  Watch out!  Give that girl a sledge hammer and it's all over.  Morgan, Laura, and I had fun taking on this project as our own "ladies project."

Voila! All gone!  (oops and some holes in the wall....yikes!)

The next phase of the open floor plan concept was tearing out the wall between the living room and kitchen.  Eventually a dinner table / kitchen island will be in this location.  For this particular Saturday, destruction was the only thing accomplished!

Laura loves destruction so much, she took the first shot head on.

Just kidding...we used hammers and crowbars.

Aaaaand the jimmy rigged thermostat - yes that is indeed electric tape holding it up.

It is a great start to a work in progress!

This big ole smile means he had too much fun :-)
