Round One Done

Well that wraps up round 1 folks!  We got to a place with the kitchen and living room transformation where we could take a break for awhile.  Sort of by choice, but mostly because we ran out of the start up money we had for the project.  Which is totally fine, because we were pushing it really hard on the weekends and it has been nice to have a break while we wait and save up money for the next project.

God has really used this whole experience to grow us in a lot of ways. He used it to bring Chris and I closer together in our marriage. He used it to bring many of our friends and family together who wanted to help and it created fun community. And he is using it to teach Chris and I to be patient and trust God's timing and plan and not our own...easier said than done for us lol.

So while the house projects are at a stand still, we are setting our focus to different things.  Some friends and I are going to try our hand at gardening out back, and Chris is focusing on woodworking to start building his business.  We are also getting pretty pumped for this nice weather - because in Roth world this means BONFIRE SEASON!
All the time. Anyone invited. Let's have so much fun. And eat s'mores.

Check out the pics below of how things turned out!

The sunlight and breeze that blows through this room is so
delightful to come home to after a long day

 With door open

 And with door closed

Perhaps next fall we would like to remove the heating unit on the left side and install a gas stove in the right corner. We will just need to re-route the piping!  Chris' buddy has a stove he is going to sell us when the time is right.  I think this will create a really cozy, cabin like feel to the living room.

I am looking forward to the finishing touches in a year or so!  Furniture that is not bright orange and that matches will be so awesome! (Go beavs)

Eventually Chris is going to build an entry table to go along the wall instead of the shelving that is currently there. Then I want to do gallery wall above it with pictures and artwork.

After we fix the foundation, we are planning on ripping out all this carpet and kitchen linoleum and doing all hardwood floors.  I think a really light wood will contrast nicely with the dark wood wall and shelves, and help brighten up the small space.

Next steps for kitchen - Chris is building a rolling butcher block that will slide in next to the stove on the right side. Bob is going to do the counter tops and backsplash behind the stove, then we will finish off the backsplash between the countertop and the shelves.

There also isn't a picture of the other side of the kitchen, but Chris is also going to build a coffee bar on the opposite wall.  It will be painted the same color as the cabinets and will have the same granite as the counter top. it will have some storage space underneath and maybe an espresso machine on top?....haha someday :-)
Then I can make Americanos every single day and be the happiest person alive.

 Happy man

This table is over 100 years old!  It expands out on both sides and is such a perfect fit for our kitchen

Me playing around with some shots on my camera - total newb at photography,
but it is fun to learn something new!

  1. I love it! It looks so welcoming, fresh, and pretty! I know it must feel amazing because of all the love there. :) The future changes sound wonderful, especially the stove in the corner, I know first hand the benefits of that! I love your table and flower pics, so very pretty. And that front door is great! You have it decorated so nicely. I love it! Thank you for sharing your new home with me (I say it like this is just for me, and I'm going to imagine it is just because I can!) Love to you both!! Terry
